Boys varsity cross country team earns Upstate Eight Valley conference title

BARTLETT – The members of the East Aurora High School boys cross country team are Upstate Eight conference champions, after the runners won the Valley Division at Saturday’s meet. The Tomcats finished 21 points ahead of Bartlett High School. East Aurora was led by three All-Conference runners: senior David Galvan, who finished 7th (15:35), junior Ricardo Del Toro who finished 12th (15:49) and senior Jose Alvarado who was 18th (15:56).  Sophomore Miguel Gonzalez (26th place, 16:06) and senior Ruben Nino (36th, 16:35) rounded out the scoring.

  The boys led a strong performance overall by the Tomcat cross country teams. The girls squad finished third in the Valley division. Senior Jazmine Reyes earned All-Conference honors, finishing 22nd (19:06).

  The frosh/soph boys team finished second in the Valley Division, despite having a top runner moved up to the varsity race.

  The conference meet was held at Sunrise Park in Bartlett. The head coach for boys and girls cross country is Shane Gillespie.

  The boys and girls varsity teams will next run on Saturday, October 24, in the IHSA Regionals at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles.
