CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois outdoor track and field made it five straight titles as the Panther men and women won the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track Championships on a rain soaked final day of competition.

The EIU women won a closely contested championship as they scored 145.5 points.  Murray State was second with 124 followed by Southeast Missouri in third with 115 points.  SIU Edwardsville (99), Tennessee State (92), Eastern Kentucky (63), Jacksonville State (55), Austin Peay (44.5), Belmont (30), Morehead State (8) and Tennessee Tech (3) rounded out the field.

EIU's men scored 222.5 points to win the title by more than 30 points over second place Southeast Missouri at 189.5 points.  SIUE was third with 131.5 points followed by Eastern Kentucky (79), Tennessee State (68), Belmont (43.5) and Morehead State (28).

Tom Akers of EIU was named the OVC Men's Coach of the Year.  Jenny Severns of Murray State was named the OVC Women's Coach of the Year.

Women's Championship Events Recap

Britney Whitehead picked up one of the Panthers gold medal finishes winning the 1500m run, her second first place of the championships.  Whitehead posted a time of 4:34.45.  Aftan Noon of SIUE was second at 4:34.56.  Erika Ramos of EIU was third at 4:35.54.

Whitehead was the third place finisher on Saturday in the women's 5K.  Whitehead posted a time of 17:34.56.  Ann Eason of EKU won the race with a time of 17:01.67.  Ashley Svec of EKU was second at 17:31.63.

Jalisa Paramore had the other Panthers first place finish in track events winning the 100m hurdles at 13.88.  Jatavia Wright of SIUE was second at 14.25 and Sharda Bettis of Murray State third at 14.27.

Alexis Love of Murray State won the women's 100m with a time of 11.73.  Quanisha Sales of Tennessee State was second at 11.91 and Angelica Anyaogu from EIU was third at 12.10.

Chantelle Gray of Austin Peay won the women's 800m with a time of 2:10.85.  Natalie Norman of Morehead State was second at 2:11.76 followed by EIU's Erika Ramos in third at 2:12.80.

Shamira Barrett of JSU won the women's 200m with a time of 24.19.  Alexis Love of Murray State was second at 24.36 and Jerika Lewis of SEMO was third at 24.36.

Bianca Forbes of EKU won the women's 400m with a time of 54.60.  Tashuana Yapchung of EKU was second at 55.25.  Jessica Oranika of SIUE was third at 55.73.

Sharda Bettis won the women's 400m hurdles at 1:01.01.  Natalie Olberding of APSU was second at 1:01.37 while Ciara Turner of SIUE was third at 1:02.40.

Tennessee State won the women's 4x100 relay with a time of 45.95.  Murray State was second at 46.17 followed by JSU at 46.27.  Jacksonville State won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:44.34.  TSU was second at 3:45.74 with SEMO third at 3:50.07.

Tonia Pratt set the OVC record winning the women's hammer throw for Murray State.  Pratt had a throw of 176'7”.  Elizabeth Hampl of SIUE was second at 175'7”.  Colleen McDonough was third at 169'10”.

Courtney Gapelu of SEMO won the women's shot put with a throw of 48'4.75”.  Colleen McDonough of SIUE was second at 47'7.75” followed by Tonia Pratt of MSU in third at 46'11.75”.

Jatavia Wright of SIUE won the women's triple jump with a distance of 40'3.50”.  Ja'Lyn Burr of TSU was second at 38'11.50”.  Michelle Higgins of SIUE was third at 38'8.75”.

Men's Championship Event Recap
EIU had three first place finishes on Saturday for the men led by the 4x400 relay which brought home the title with a time of 3:15.75.  SIUE was second at 3:15.87.  SEMO was third at 3:18.84.  In the men's 4x100 relay SIUE was first with a time of 41.28.  EIU was second at 41.29.  Belmont was third at 44.13.

Calvin Edwards won the men's 200m with a time of 21.50.  Ahmad Evans of SIUE was second at 21.56 and SIUE's Darius Smith was third at 21.73.

EIU swept all three podium spots in the men's 110m hurdles.  Dominique Hall was first crossing in 14.52.  Tyler Carter was second at 14.63 and Lamarr Pottinger was third at 14.66.

Hall placed second for EIU in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 53.64.  Josh Thomas of SIUE was the gold medalist with a time of 53.17.  Emmanuel Thornton was third at 53.99.

Darius Smith of SIUE won the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.74.  Kaleel Johnson of EIU was second at 10.75.  Kendrick Farr of SEMO was third at 10.90. 

Braxton Klavins of SIUE won the men's 400m with a time of 48.01.  Cody Boarman of EIU was second at 48.68.  Michael Johnson of TSU was third at 48.80.

Desmond Bell of Morehead State won the men's 800m with a time of 1:52.99.  Ephraim Dorsey of EIU was second at 1:53.16.  Tyler Holmes of SEMO was third at 1:53.61.

Wade Meddles of EKU won the men's 1500m with a time of 3:54.88.  Bryce Basting of EIU was second with a time of 3:58.51.  Gary Monroe of Morehead State was third at 3:59.90.

Ole Hesselbjerg of EKU won the men's 5K with a time of 14:50.62.  Wade Meddles of EKU was second at 14:52.19.  Zach Elliott of Morehead State was third at 14:53.99.

Kevin Farley of SEMO won the men's shot put with a throw of 56'3.25”.  Craig Robinson of SEMO was second at 55'6.50”.  Greg Block of SIUE was third at 53'1.

SEMO swept all three top spots in the men's hammer throw.  Jared Siemers won with a distance of 189'2”.  Kevin Farley was second at 177'10”.  Craig Robinson was third at 173'2”.

Reginald Miller Jr of SEMO won the men's triple jump covering 47'5.25”.  Laderrick Ward of SIUE was second at 47'1.75”.  Tyler Anderson of TSU was third at 46'8.75”.
