East Aurora graduate Jamario Taylor, a Western Illinois University senior, took sole possession of the school high jump record at the Red Wolf Invitational.

A senior, Taylor had shared the record with Dave Stormer, who jumped 7 feet, 0.5 inches in 1977. Taylor jumped 7-1.5.

“Any time I have gone over 7-0, it has been near perfect,” said Taylor. “I know I have at least two meets left, hopefully three. In those meets, I hope to jump 7-3 or better. In the jump at Arkansas State, I cleared the bar by quite a bit. I think that jump would have cleared 7-3.”

Taylor, who won the Red Wolf event, is ranked first among Summit League high jumpers. He is five inches ahead of his nearest competitor, South Dakota State freshman Zach Koosman, who has a 6-8.25 this year. Among NCAA Division I jumpers, Taylor is ranked 22nd on the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association Website.

North Central senior Kris Singh (Waubonsie Valley) improved to 6-0, pitching NCC (25-14) to a 7-3 win over North Park. Singh, who worked nine innings, allowed one earned run on seven hits. He fanned five and walked five. Sam Carius (Waubonsie Valley) doubled and scored a run. NCC opened the tournament with a 6-3 loss to Augustana. Carius walked and scored one of NCC’s runs. Both occurred in the CCIW Tournament in Moline.

Aviance King (West Aurora), Riley Kittridge (Waubonsie Valley) and Justine Moore (Sandwich), scored points for Eastern Illinois in the Ohio Valley Conference Finals. King finished second in the high jump, leaping 6 foot, 8.75 inches. Kittridge scored points in the shot put (third, 53-2.75), discus (fourth, 160-0) and hammer throw (eighth, 147-1). Moore finished fifth in the 100 hurdles, finishing in :14.23.

EIU took second with 194 points. The Panther women were third with 122.5 points. Southeast Missouri State took first, scoring 207 points in the men’s meet and 141 points in the women’s meet.

Tavis Gibson (Yorkville) averaged 23.8 minutes this year for Victory (22-6). The 6-2 junior guard, who played in 25 games and made 15 starts, finished the year with 132 points and 64 rebounds. He also had 45 assists and 15 steals. He scored his points by hitting 44-for-113 from the floor and 19-for-31 from the free throw line. He drained 25 from beyond the arc.

LaRi Mitchell (East Aurora) was 2-for-3, but it was not enough to power Middle Tennessee State (10-45, 2-21 CUSA) beyond Florida Atlantic in a 5-3 loss. She also had a hit in MTSU’s 5-0 loss to FAU.

North Park (23-18) was eliminated from the CCIW Tournament by losing not only to the NCC Cardinals (7-3), but also to Illinois Wesleyan. NPU senior Eric Sousanes (North Park) was 1-for-4 with a walk against North Central. In the 8-5 loss to IWU, he was 1-for-5 and drove home a run.

Kevin Sparks (Geneva) finished fourth in the 10,000 at the University Athletic Association Track and Field Championships held in Chicago. The Washington senior finished in 32:24.55. The Bears won the team title, finishing with 215 points. They were 49 points ahead Carnegie Mellon.
