East Aurora High School senior Desmond Gant earns more All-State honors
AURORA – For the second time this school year, East Aurora High School senior Desmond Gant has earned All-State honors.
After being named an All-State football player in the fall, Gant finished eighth in the 200-meter dash at the Illinois State High School Association Class 3A track finals held Saturday in Charleston.
Gant qualified for the state track finals by running the fifth-fastest time in the preliminary heats: 21.7 seconds. In the state finals, Gant finished the race in 22.01 seconds, earning All-State recognition.
Gant was also part of the 4x200-meter relay team that qualified for the state meet.
Gant qualified for the state meet by running 22.17 seconds at sectionals. He previously finished second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes in the Upstate Eight Conference Meet. He was also part of the 4x200 meter relay that finished second, making Gant All-Conference in three events.
In the fall, Gant was named honorable mention All-State as a defensive back on the football team. Gant led the Tomcat football team in tackles, averaged 20 yards per reception, and averaged more than 35 yards per kick return.
Next year, Gant will attend the University of Minnesota on a football scholarship.
